The Human Resources Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Assistant Engineer/Associate Engineer/Associate Civil Engineer/Senior Civil Engineer.
Under supervision performs professional engineering work in the planning, permitting, design, construction and operation of District facilities including water and wastewater treatment plants, water and recycled water distribution and wastewater collection systems, and hydroelectric generation systems; performs a variety of technical engineering studies.
Assistant Engineer - This is the entry level class in the Engineer series. Positions in this class typically have little or no directly related work experience. The Assistant Engineer class is distinguished from the Associate level by the performance of less than the full range of duties assigned to the Associate level. Incumbents work under general supervision while learning job tasks, progressing to direction as procedures and processes of assigned area of responsibility are learned.
Associate Engineer - This is the journey level class in the Engineer series and is distinguished from the Assistant level by the assignment of the full range of duties. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new, unusual or unique situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the Assistant level.
Associate Civil Engineer – This the journey registered level in the Engineer series. This class is distinguished from Associate Engineer by the requirement for possession of registration as a professional engineer within the State of California and the ability to independently review, approve and stamp plans.
Senior Civil Engineer - This is the advanced journey level in the Engineer series. Positions at this level are distinguished from other classes within the series by the level of responsibility assumed, complexity of duties assigned, independence of action taken, by the amount of time spent performing the duties, and by the nature of the public contact made. Employees perform the most difficult and responsible types of duties assigned to classes within this series, may provide technical and functional supervision over assigned personnel and perform the most difficult and complex professional engineering duties. Employees at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedures related to assigned areas of responsibility.
